Toshiba Switchgear & Drives Financing

Toshiba's industrial electrical division covers two distinct segments that we finance regularly: medium-voltage switchgear for utility and industrial primary distribution, and variable frequency drives used in process industries, water and wastewater, and manufacturing. Both segments involve equipment that is specified by engineers, carries long lead times, and lands on project schedules where capital timing matters.

We finance Toshiba switchgear and drive equipment for industrial owners, electrical contractors, and project buyers across the industries where Toshiba maintains strong market presence. Minimum transaction is $50,000. The Toshiba G9 and H9 adjustable speed drive series are among the most common Toshiba assemblies in our financing pipeline, along with Toshiba medium-voltage switchgear lineups for utility and large industrial applications.

Application-only financing covers transactions up to roughly $400,000. Larger deals add bank statements. Funding runs one to two weeks from application in standard situations. B and C credit are reviewed case by case.

Toshiba Equipment We Finance

The Toshiba product lines most active in our financing pipeline:

  • Toshiba G9 And H9 Adjustable Speed DrivesHigh-performance medium-voltage and low-voltage VFD platforms used in pumping, fan, compressor, and process applications across water and wastewater, oil and gas, mining, and manufacturing. The G9 is a medium-voltage drive in voltage classes from 2.3kV to 6.6kV; the H9 is a low-voltage drive widely used in HVAC and industrial pump applications. These are engineered drive solutions, not commodity products, and carry corresponding price points.
  • Toshiba Medium-voltage SwitchgearToshiba's utility-grade and industrial medium-voltage switchgear, including vacuum interrupter and air insulated designs for primary distribution applications at 5kV to 35kV. Common in utility substations, large industrial facilities, and transit systems where Toshiba has a long-term market presence.
  • Toshiba T-VRT And Q-VRT Industrial DrivesSpecialized drive platforms for demanding industrial applications including pump, compressor, and fan drives in process industries and oil and gas sectors.
  • Motor And Switchgear Integration PackagesToshiba drives specified alongside medium-voltage MCCs or as part of a complete motor and drive system for pumping or process applications.

Toshiba Buyer Profiles

Toshiba's industrial electrical market is concentrated in specific sectors:

Water and wastewater treatment utilities are one of Toshiba's core markets for medium-voltage drives. Large pump drives rated from hundreds of kilowatts to several megawatts drive raw water, distribution, and treatment pumps in surface water and groundwater facilities. A water utility financing a pump drive upgrade or a new pump station buildout with Toshiba medium-voltage drives is a transaction we handle regularly.

Industrial and manufacturing facilities run Toshiba drives in process applications where precise speed control, high reliability, and compatibility with the existing electrical system architecture drove the selection. A paper mill, a cement plant, or a chemical processing facility that has run Toshiba drives for years often replaces on a Toshiba-to-Toshiba basis because the integration costs of switching platforms are real.

Oil and gas operators in upstream and midstream applications use Toshiba medium-voltage drives for large compressor and pump applications. The drive in a gas compression station or a crude gathering pump system carries both the process load and the facility's revenue, so reliability and service support are primary selection criteria.

Terms And Structures

Toshiba drives and switchgear are capital equipment with long service lives. VFDs in particular are installed expecting 15 to 20-plus year service lives when properly maintained, and Toshiba's medium-voltage switchgear carries similar longevity expectations. Term lengths of 60 to 84 months are common and appropriate for these asset lives.

Equipment loans are the most common structure for Toshiba drive and switchgear transactions. Fixed payments over a defined term, ownership at the end, and the ability to capture depreciation in the early years. For buyers wanting to preserve the option to upgrade before the end of the asset's physical life, an equipment lease with an FMV purchase option gives flexibility.

For water utilities and government entities purchasing Toshiba drives, the financing structure may need to fit within annual budget cycles or bond financing frameworks. We work with municipal and utility buyers on structures that are compatible with public entity procurement requirements.

Used Toshiba medium-voltage drives and switchgear circulate in the secondary market. Used equipment financing on tested Toshiba assemblies is available when condition documentation supports it.

Equipment Desk Answers

Common Questions on Toshiba Switchgear & Drives Financing

Straight answers before you send the equipment file.

Toshiba medium-voltage drives are expensive. Can I finance one as a standalone purchase?

Yes. A single Toshiba medium-voltage drive above our $50,000 minimum can be financed as a standalone transaction. Medium-voltage drives for large pump or compressor applications often well exceed the minimum and qualify on their own. We do not require you to bundle additional equipment to meet a threshold.

We are a water utility. Can a public utility entity qualify for Toshiba drive financing?

Yes. Public utility entities including water districts, municipal utilities, and electric cooperatives qualify for equipment financing. The credit approach and documentation requirements for a public entity differ from a private business. We work within the procurement and authorization frameworks that govern public entity purchasing.

The Toshiba G9 drive we need requires a custom transformer and reactor package. Can those accessories be included?

Yes. Associated isolation transformers, line reactors, and harmonic filter packages that are specified as part of the drive system can be included in the same financing transaction. We treat the complete drive system, including accessories, as a single package if they are purchased together.

We have a Toshiba drive that is ten years old but still running well. Can we do a sale-leaseback on it?

A ten-year-old Toshiba medium-voltage drive in good operating condition with documented maintenance history may qualify for a sale-leaseback, depending on the current market value. We verify condition and value before structuring the advance. Asset age alone does not disqualify; condition and replacement value are the key factors.

Can I finance a Toshiba drive installation project that includes both the drive hardware and the installation labor?

Equipment financing covers the hard asset. Installation labor on its own is not equipment collateral, but if the drive system is the primary component and installation is a minor portion of the total project cost, some lenders will include soft costs up to a reasonable percentage of the hardware value. We discuss this case by case.
